'Grub 'n Gratitude' set for Tuesday
FAIRBURY – Kilgus Farmstead of Fairbury will host an event known as “Grub ‘n Gratitude” Tuesday evening (May 16) from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“It’s the first time we’ve tried doing anything like this,” Jenna Kilgus told The Central Illinois Farm Network. “We decided to try and do something to give back to the community.”
Woody & Bubba’s BBQ will serve food and an ice cream social will take place as well. Any proceeds from the ice cream sales will go to the Dylan Bazzell and Drew Fehr memorial funds.
“There is still a lot of sadness surrounding their passing and we feel for the high school seniors that are going through what should be a happy time,” said Kilgus.
The idea is to give back while embracing and surrounding those who need it during a difficult time for the area. Picnic tables will be set up in the yard or the food and ice cream can be taken to-go.
“Parking for the event will be across the road,” added Kilgus.
Another event you’ll want to mark your calendar for is the annual Breakfast on the Farm at Kilgus Farmstead, sponsored by the Livingston County Farm Bureau Young Leaders, on Saturday, June 10. Breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. that day.
“We usually have a lot of kids activities and free self-guided farm tours.”
A breakfast of biscuits and gravy, milk, eggs and juice is all served for a dollar, representing what goes back to the farmer from the ingredients. This is also known as a “farmer’s share” breakfast event.
Kilgus Farmstead is located in southern Livingston County at 21471 East 670 North Road, Fairbury.
