SPRINGFIELD – There were 3.8 days suitable for field work during the week ending April 11, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois on Monday.


Statewide, the average temperature was 59.7 degrees, 11.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.81 inches, 1.03 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 6 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.


Corn planted reached 5 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent. Winter wheat headed was 3 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 6 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 19 percent excellent.
