Deere employees go on strike

A John Deere worker strike is shutting down operations at 11 company factories in Illinois, Iowa and Kansas along with distribution centers in Georgia and Colorado.
Around 10,000 members of the UAW (United Auto Workers) are on strike and have been since early Thursday morning after the union turned down a wage deal with Deere. A tentative agreement was reached just a couple of weeks ago between the union and the company on a new six-year contract. The deal was rejected by 90 percent of union members on Sunday.
This is considered to be the largest strike in the private sector since GM workers went on strike two years ago.
