Quarterly hogs & pigs report
Illinois inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1, 2019 was 5.30 million head, up 1 percent from March 1, 2019 but down 1 percent from last year.
Breeding inventory, at 590,000 head, was up 30,000 from the previous quarter and up 20,000 from last year. Market hog inventory, at 4.71 million head, was up slightly from last quarter but down 1 percent from last year.
The March-May 2019 pig crop, at 2.90 million head, was down 1 percent from 2018. Sows farrowing during this period totaled 270,000 head, down 5,000 from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 10.75 for the March-May period, compared with 10.70 last year.
