Snow shortens fall window

FAIRBURY – This week’s snowfall wasn’t what area farmers expected as more fall fieldwork needs to be done.

Up until the recent outbreak of wintry weather, growers had a good run in the fields.

“The majority of crops are out around here and that gave us a pretty good window to get a lot of the dry fertilizer out,” said Brad Schmidgall, plant manager for the Fairbury Brandt Consolidated location.

There was a small window to get started on anhydrous ammonia application but there is more to be done if the weather straightens out.

Ready or not, the time is here to start preparing for the next year. Seed and chemical decisions are often made during the winter months to make plans for another productive growing season.

The Brandt Fairbury location can be reached at 815-692-2612.
