Crops look good near Streator
STREATOR – When driving near Streator, you’ll notice the crops don’t look too bad. Soybeans are getting close to the end of flowering and filling out pods currently.
“The corn is still staying green,” said local farmer Jay Whalen. “I’m guessing we are looking at two weeks or so later than normal, but it’s coming along.”
Whalen says corn in his area ranges from 105-113 day maturity with most falling in that 108-110 day window. Whalen knows of at least one grower who planted a 2.4 soybean variety in April which is starting to turn yellow already.
“I think the beans will be coming along here pretty quick,” he adds.
