Weekly crop progress report 7-10


There were 4.9 days suitable for field work during the week ending July 9, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report for Illinois issued Monday.


Statewide, the average temperature was 74.2 degrees, 1.6 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.19 inches, 0.39 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 17 percent very short, 24 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 24 percent very short, 31 percent short, 44 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.


Corn silking reached 27 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 33 percent. Corn dough reached 1 percent, even with the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 9 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 33 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.


Soybeans blooming reached 40 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 34 percent. Soybeans setting pods reached 10 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 7 percent. Soybean condition was rated 11 percent very poor, 18 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 31 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Winter wheat harvested for grain was 88 percent, even with the 5-year average.
