Weekly crop progress report


There were 6.8 days suitable for field work during the week ending June 4, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois.


Statewide, the average temperature last week was 74.8 degrees, 7 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.13 inches, 0.78 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 29 percent very short, 43 percent short, 27 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 21 percent very short, 39 percent short, 39 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.


Corn emerged reached 91 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 78 percent. Corn condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Soybeans planted reached 96 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 77 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 89 percent compared to the 5-year average of 63 percent. Soybeans condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 41 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.


Winter wheat headed was 98 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 94 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 16 percent excellent.
