Update on supplies, pricing with Nu-Ag

CHATSWORTH – Tightness of supplies is starting to impact everything from fertilizer and chemicals to machines and electronics.

It is looking to be one of those years when everything needs to be in place by April with inputs secured. Also, there has been a rather large increase in steel prices which is driving many products.

Nu-Ag Technology in Chatsworth was fortunate enough to place orders on the Soil Max Tile Plows before prices took effect.

“Right now, we are trying to pass those 2020 prices on to any customers that are looking to get locked in before 2021,” Nu-Ag Technology owner Tim McGreal said.

If you look around the country, tile has taken on new meaning with a tremendous amount installed last fall. McGreal said things are moving fast as they had large sales last week and only have a few plows left for the 2020 pricing.

“We’ve already seen one substantial price increase for any new orders about a month ago and it looks like they’re telling us we’ve got another price increase coming here shortly.”

McGreal feels good about all that was accomplished last fall as the weather was great for any type of work around the farm, including tiling. On McGreal’s farm, it got to the point where they had to stop, move on and prepare for the next year.

“Even up until the last week or so, there has been a lot of drainage work and that type of stuff being done,” McGreal observed.

With the forecasted winter weather, McGreal expects everything to come to an abrupt halt for a while.

On the planting side of things, Ag Leader has entered the high-speed planter market with the new product known as Sure Speed.

“Along those lines with our GPS, electronic and planter equipment, we are looking at three to four week lead times already. From what I am hearing, that’s pretty standard across the industry,” McGreal added.
