Tractor driver dead after collision

HEYWORTH – A 44-year-old man from Heyworth has died after the tractor he was driving collided with a semi-truck north of Heyworth in McLean County Tuesday.

Jay C. Fitzgerald was pronounced dead at 9:46 a.m. on the scene, at U.S. Route 51 at County Road 400 North in Randolph Township. The McLean County Coroner’s office reports Fitzgerald was the driver and sole occupant of the tractor and was ejected upon impact.

Autopsy results indicate Fitzgerald’s cause of death as craniocerebral injuries due to the collision. Toxicology testing is pending.

The incident remains under investigation by Illinois State Police and the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
