There were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending August 25, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois this week.


Statewide, the average temperature was 68.7 degrees, 4.6 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.01 inches, 0.66 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 7 percent very short, 31 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 7 percent very short, 24 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.


Corn dough reached 92 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 84 percent. Corn dented reached 62 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 47 percent. Corn mature reached 10 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 3 percent. Corn condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 17 percent excellent.


Soybeans setting pods reached 93 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 86 percent. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 6 percent. Soybeans condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.
