Summer cookout price is down

The cost for those Fourth of July cookouts this weekend is down 16 cents from last year but about eight percent higher than 2019.

A summer cookout for 10 people remains an affordable $59.50, or less than $6 per person, according to the analysis from the American Farm Bureau Federation. Strawberries had the biggest year over year price increase. The survey indicated two pints of strawberries were up 22 percent from 2020 because of strong demand and weather events.

Heavy rains, high winds and hail greatly impacted the strawberry harvest early this year.
