Ridgeview towns come together for FFA
COLFAX – A Blackstone grill, student made bag sets and a signed Elite 8 girls basketball were among the items auctioned off Saturday evening during the 20th annual Ridgeview FFA auction in Colfax.
“To be honest, it was very hectic at the beginning but by the end of the day, we’ll have everything sorted just where we want it and hopefully have a great turnout,” Ridgeview FFA co-president Tannar Landau said prior to the start of the auction.
The bag sets were made by students in the school’s Ag Mechanics class and other auction items included tools, accessories and baked goods.
“We had a lot to do to prepare,” stated FFA secretary Annalyn Harper.
Ridgeview FFA vice president Peyton Rinkenberger said it was great to have an in-person auction coming off the COVID year.
“Last year, we couldn’t do that. We had to have an online one,” she explained.
Saturday’s activities in Colfax started with a pork chop meal and silent auction followed by the live auction.
“We’ve got Reba tickets and Tailgate ‘N Tallboys which will be out at the Interstate Center,” said Ridgeview FFA advisor and ag teacher Ariel Bunting.
This has been a fun school year for the chapter as FFA members recently invited elementary students to the ag shop for a petting zoo during National FFA Week. A teacher appreciation lunch was also held in February.
“We have been busy all year getting kids active and back into the routine since COVID made it hard to do things in person,” Bunting observed.
Star sponsors with a monetary donation of $100 or more to the Ridgeview chapter include: Kennedy Farm Drainage, Beitz Trucking, Gibson Area Hospital, One Earth Energy, Mark Ummel, Cooksville Grain, Alliance Grain, Corn Belt Ag Products, Anchor State Bank, Getty Lawncare, Arrowsmith Township and Feese Insurance. Sponsors with monetary donations under $100 include: LeRoy Veterinary Clinic, Coile’s Diesel Inc., Stephens Auto Glass and Cynthia Wade.
The chapter thanks the following for making the auction night a success: auctioneer Billy Bolen, Ridgeview faculty and staff, FFA alumni, FFA members, FFA parents and the Ridgeview communities.
With the funds raised this year, Ridgeview FFA members will have the chance to attend various conferences, contests and conventions.
More information can be found by searching for the Ridgeview FFA or FFA alumni pages on Facebook.
“Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate,” added Bunting.
