Over $16,000 raised for GCMS FFA

GIBSON CITY - Thanks to community generosity, the Gibson City Melvin Sibley FFA Chapter raised over $16,000 for senior scholarships and chapter funds on Saturday.

The annual auction was a success and returned for a live format.

“It helps pay for everything else we do throughout the year like different conferences, workshops, competitions and conventions,” explains GCMS ag teacher and FFA advisor Jeff Reale.

GCMS FFA officers head out to gather the donations each year and help put everything together. After a couple of wild years with COVID filled with virtual events, this has been a good year for the GCMS chapter.

“Here during the second semester and especially in the spring, things are opening up and they’re really excited to get back out doing the things they love to do,” noted Reale.

The GCMS FFA member banquet is coming up May 18. Members will be helping out with agriculture safety days for Carle Health on Friday and the Illinois FFA Convention is on the way in June.
