Last week another dry one for Illinois


There were 6.9 days suitable for field work during the week ending October 23, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report for Illinois issued Monday.


Statewide, the average temperature was 49.4 degrees, 3.2 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.0 inches, 0.72 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 23 percent very short, 31 percent short, and 46 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 19 percent very short, 30 percent short, and 51 percent.

Corn mature reached 93 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 98 percent. Corn harvested for grain reached 65 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 69 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 78 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 74 percent.


Winter wheat planted reached 67 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 69 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 17 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 41 percent.
