Farm & Home Show returns Saturday

Last year's PC FFA Farm and Home Show is shown in Forrest.

FORREST – An FFA week tradition continues this Saturday (Feb. 25) in Forrest with the annual Prairie Central FFA Farm and Home Show inside the Upper Elementary school.

Several vendors are featured showcasing area businesses and lunch is served during the day in the school cafeteria.

“It’s just a big community thing and we are excited for everyone that comes out,” said PC FFA senior Tyler Hartman.

Show hours have been changed this year and it will operate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school gymnasium. A pork burger lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Those attending the Farm and Home Show will be able to purchase raffle tickets for the fully restored 1950 John Deere “A” tractor. This was fully restored all the way down to the frame. Students sold tickets during last month’s Gordyville farm show near Gifford.

“Me and another FFA member went down the second day and ticket sales were good,” noted Hartman.

Another John Deere A, which was donated to the chapter, will be auctioned off during the March 16 meal and auction at Prairie Central High School in Fairbury. The students did a few things to get it running. FFA members are in the process of gathering items for the March auction.

Coming off another very successful showing at the National FFA Convention last fall, PC had two state championships prior to Christmas break to start the new season. Plenty of contests are occurring through May to round out the school year.

“They’ve been staying busy and we are excited to see what’s to come,” admits Kylie Miller, one of the PC FFA advisors and ag teachers.

Other ag instructors for PCHS include Becky Freed, Kyle Miller (Kylie’s father) and Tyson Stork.

“We’ve got a great group of colleagues and teachers,” notes Miller. “It’s a great group to work with every day.”

You can visit the Central Illinois Farm Network booth at Saturday’s Farm and Home Show in Forrest to see live remotes and enjoy giveaways.
