Weekly crop progress report
SPRINGFIELD – There were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 16, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday afternoon for Illinois.
Statewide, the average temperature was 75.1 degrees, 1.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.87 inches, 0.04 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 20 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 14 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.
Corn dough was 81 percent compared to the 5-year average of 78 percent. Corn dented was 21 percent compared to the 5-year average of 33 percent. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 16 percent excellent.
Soybeans blooming reached 97 percent compared to the 5-year average of 95 percent. Soybeans setting pods was at 84 percent compared to the 5-year average of 81 percent. Soybeans condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.
