Weekly crop progress report
SPRINGFIELD – There were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 12, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois on Monday.
Statewide, the average temperature was 79.3 degrees, 3.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.96 inches, 0.18 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 5 percent very short, 23 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 5 percent very short, 18 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.
Corn silking was at 36 percent compared to the 5-year average of 52 percent. Corn dough was at 1 percent, even with the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 15 percent excellent.
Soybeans blooming reached 37 percent compared to the 5-year average of 40 percent. Soybeans setting pods was at 10 percent compared to the 5-year average of 11 percent. Soybeans condition was rated at 4 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 15 percent excellent.
Winter wheat harvested was at 89 percent compared to the previous year at 85 percent and the 5-year average of 91 percent.
