SPRINGFIELD – There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 21, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report for Illinois issued Monday.

Statewide, the average temperature was 72.8 degrees, 0.3 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.40 inches, 0.56 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 7 percent very short, 26 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.

Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 5 percent very short, 19 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.

Corn condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Soybeans planted reached 97 percent compared to the previous year at 76 percent and the 5-year average of 92 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 92 percent compared to the previous year at 62 percent and the 5-year average of 86 percent.

Soybeans blooming reached 2 percent compared to the 5-year average of 4 percent. Soybeans condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvested was at 26 percent compared to the previous year at 12 percent and the 5-year average of 37 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 6 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.
