Jump in egg prices

The wholesale price of eggs was at $3.09 a dozen late this week which is three times the price they were in early March.
This jump is not only because of people cooking at home currently but also due to the use of eggs to study vaccines and medicine to help combat coronavirus, says Roy Plote, of PCI a division of L&M Commodities.
During a pandemic influenza outbreak, around 900,000 chicken eggs are needed every single day in order to make vaccines for the U.S. alone, according to experts. This typically covers a six to nine month period.
