View from the Cab: A simpler time

As I look out from our front porch and across the vast countryside, I am reminded of a simpler time.

Not a simpler time as in years ago but just days ago before our everyday lives were impacted. We have all had plenty of time to reflect on the situation as we are at home with loved ones trying to make the most of life.

While gazing out of our country window at a sunny, blue sky last Tuesday with hardly a breeze around, it was hard to believe all that was happening in our world. Rest assured: we will get through this.

Living in farm country, we are all resilient. Producers just experienced one of the most challenging years in recent memory with spring planting delays due to flooding and snow which impacted fall harvest. Everyone was ready to put 2019 behind them and unfortunately, 2020 isn’t starting much better with plenty of uncertainty surrounding supplies, markets and weather – just to name a few.

Despite all of this, our farmers are preparing to plant another crop. A new beginning, if you will. Here is our chance to start over with a clean slate and pray for our country, the world and everyone’s future.

We need to remember we have no control over what will happen this year in agriculture and everywhere. Whatever is meant to be will be. Whatever happens, happens. You get the point. It can be hard to digest sometimes but just know God is looking out for us all and will carry us through.

A great verse found in Philippians 4:6-7 says, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Here’s to better times ahead for us all. Take advantage of your time together with loved ones and savor every moment of the quietness. We are rewriting history as we speak.
