There were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 21, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued for Illinois Monday.


Statewide, the average temperature was 56.9 degrees, 2.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.95 inches, equal to normal precipitation. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 17 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus.


Corn planted reached 11 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 10 percent. Corn emerged reached 1 percent. Soybeans planted reached 11 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 6 percent. Soybeans emerged reached 1 percent.


Winter wheat headed reached 11 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 5 percent. Winter wheat condition was 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 13 percent fair, 67 percent good, and 16 percent excellent.
