FORREST – Visitors from near and far enjoyed the 40th annual Prairie Central FFA Farm and Home Show Saturday in Forrest.

The annual tradition featured area farm and home sales businesses, services and suppliers. A pork burger lunch was served and raffle tickets were sold for the restored Farmall B tractor.

“We have a bunch of different local businesses that come out, bring whatever they have to offer us and it’s awesome to be able to have a little social time with the businesses,” said FFA Treasurer Cassidy Edelman.

Local American Family Insurance agent Kelly Kinate was among the exhibitors interacting with the crowd.

“It was a great turnout and it was nice to have great weather so everybody got out and about,” said Kinate.

Kinate’s booth featured information on various types of insurance such as auto, home, life and business.

“Your dreams are out there and we’re here to protect them.”

The Forrest show was a priority for State Rep. Tom Bennett of Gibson City who also attended breakfasts from Eureka all the way to Kempton the same day. Bennett had a chance to enjoy ice cream and popcorn while conversing with attendees.

“We just have a lot of energy here today and a lot of conversations,” Bennett noted.

Visitors to the Farm and Home Show also enjoyed a live line demo which educates businesses, schools and public safety departments on electrical safety. Live line demo sponsors included: Compeer Financial, Consolidated Building Center, Eastern Illini, JR Electric, Jenner Precision, Ken’s Oil, Kilgus Farmstead, Leman Builders, Slagel Insulation, Solid Rock Masonry, Shorty Stork/Stone Seed and Zimmerman Brothers F&G.

This has been a great year for the PC FFA with seven state winning teams, national champions in ag sales, second in dairy products, ag mechanics and dairy cattle and fourth in vet science. The chapter received ninth in ag business management and the silver emblem for meats. The FFA has won state contests in dairy products and ag sales.

Also, 10 students earned their state FFA degree with two earning their American FFA degree.

Next up is the annual Hog Roast and Auction planned for March 19 at Prairie Central High School in Fairbury. A meal will be served from 4-6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria with the auction at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. The winner of the raffle tractor will also be announced during the auction.
