View from the Cab: A full calendar

As the calendar now reads 2020, I’m pumped about covering all of the upcoming ag shows, meetings and expositions during the late winter period.
The big Precision Planting Winter Conference takes place Jan. 21-24 at the company facility in Tremont. This will also be simulcast at several different spots around the country, including Iowa, Colorado, Texas, Pennsylvania and North Dakota. Winter Conference includes sessions to help maximize your farm featuring ag tech creators. You also have the chance to connect with fellow growers and learn how to eliminate challenges. Register online at www.ppwinterconference.com.
Volunteers involved with county fairs throughout the state will gather in the capital city for the annual Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs (IAAF) convention Jan. 17-20 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. This weekend includes the crowning of the 2020 Miss Illinois County Fair Queen. I am proud to be a part of the IAAF festivities as I will emcee the entertainment showcase Friday night. The Saturday morning breakfast meeting is always informative as the IAAF brings in a talented motivational speaker each year.
Those involved with the Illinois pork industry will gather at the Bank of Springfield Center Feb. 4-5 for Illinois Pork Expo from the Illinois Pork Producers Association. The IPPA annual meeting kicks things off Feb. 4 followed by the trade show and presentations on animal ag activism and passing on the farm. A legislative reception and awards presentation takes place that evening prior to the live pork production auction. Feb. 5 highlights include an NPPC update, trade show and certified livestock manager training.
The 2020 Illinois Beef Expo is set for Feb. 19-23 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. The performance tested bull check-in takes place opening day along with the IPT bull sale meeting. On Feb. 20, the IPT bull sale takes place and the trade show opens Feb. 21. Other highlights include the Illinois Angus Futurity Show, Illinois Angus Association meeting, Hereford sale and Illinois Simmental Association banquet. Also, Sullivan Supply/Stock Show U will sponsor a team fitting contest. Activities for the final day include a junior beef skillathon and the junior show.
