Livingston Co. farmer waits for rain

CULLOM – Like other growers across the state, eastern Livingston County farmer George Halpin struggled to get everything in during the spring due to wet weather and now the ground is too dry.

The Halpins didn’t finish planting until about the end of June.

“Most of the corn went in the first part of June,” Halpin told The Central Illinois Farm Network last week during the Cullom Junior Fair.

A few crops around Cullom were planted in April and May but 90 percent of the crops in that region went into the ground during June. The heat is helping the corn catch up on growing degree units, but Halpin is hoping for some moisture soon to help fill-out the grain.
