View from the Cab: 6,820 Tweets later

I often Tweet at 4:30 in the morning, although my Tweets aren’t closely watched by others around the world and I guarantee they don’t move the markets one way or another.

For those who aren’t familiar with this most unique term, “Tweet” means to post on the social networking site Twitter. I pretty much consider Twitter a condensed version of Facebook. The reason I Tweet so early is because I go on the air with an early morning radio and online show shortly after 5 a.m. and try to have a preview out on social media before then.

I signed up for a Twitter account back in the spring of 2009, thanks to the urging of a former radio boss, and have never looked back. I am up to 6,820 Tweets and close to 400 followers. Twitter is actually great for the ag community as you can follow farmers near and far and click links to all types of farm articles and opinion pieces. Speaking of opinions, our president has caused a stir with some recent Tweets.

“For 10 months, China has been paying Tariffs to the USA of 25% on 50 Billion Dollars of High Tech, and 10% on 200 Billion Dollars of other goods. These payments are partially responsible for our great economic results. The 10% will go up to 25% on Friday,” our commander-in-chief said on Cinco De Mayo.

Another Tweet shortly after that by Donald J. Trump acknowledged the trade deal continues with China but “too slowly.” He noted tariffs paid to our country had little impact on product cost.

It just took these two Tweets last Sunday to send corn and soybean prices tumbling. We did gain some of the losses back, but many believe our prices remain low because of what is happening with China and the president’s words. Maybe he could change to Instagram or You Tube. Would that help?

We are living in some very interesting times where a simple Tweet can be interpreted everywhere. You can closely monitor the latest developments by following President Trump on Twitter. Just look for the username: @realDonaldTrump. Just wait until the CAPS LOCK comes on. Then you know it is going to get interesting.
