There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 19, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday.

Statewide, the average temperature was 75.4 degrees, 1.4 degrees above the normal. Precipitation averaged 1.16 inches, 0.30 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 26 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 9 percent very short, 31 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.

Corn dough reached 94 percent, compared to 89 percent last year. Corn dented reached 63 percent, compared to 39 percent last year. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 29 percent excellent.

Soybeans setting pods was at 95 percent, compared to 91 percent last year. Soybean coloring was rated at 3 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 1 percent. Soybean condition was rated at 3 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 26 percent excellent.

Sorghum headed reached 88 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 81 percent. Sorghum coloring reached 62 percent, compared to 60 percent last year. Sorghum mature reached 25 percent, compared to 20 percent last year. Sorghum condition was rated at 6 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.
