Dream comes true for FFA chapter
FLANAGAN – It all started as a dream by ag teacher Jessica Collins to have a greenhouse and be able to expand horticulture classes at Flanagan-Cornell High School.
The school's FFA alumni chapter was able to make that dream come true and work on the brand new FCHS greenhouse was completed over the winter. The building is located behind the school near the football field.
“We just started planting in it in late January or early February,” said FCHS FFA member Cheyanne Kreush.
“We come out here and water every day, making sure the temperature is right. Then, we make sure everything is clean,” added member Rachael Quaritsch.
Once the actual building construction was complete, the ag classes at FCHS really pitched in to get the project off the ground.
“We are thankful that the alumni made this happen,” said Quaritsh.
The greenhouse features impatiens, geraniums, various vines, spike plants and hanging baskets the FFA members designed themselves. All of the plants, and even a few vegetables, will be on sale during a handful of dates this spring, including May 6 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; May 10-12 from 3 to 7 p.m.; and May 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
