Growers urged to review plans
FAIRBURY – This is a good time to review fertilizer, chemical and seed plans for 2017, according to the manager for Brandt Consolidated’s Fairbury location.
Brad Schmidgall says you don’t want to make too many of these decisions just “shooting from the hip” once you get busy and are likely to forget something important. Schmidgall acknowledges winter is a busy time for farmers to catch up on meetings and learn new things.
“It’s a really good educational time,” he said.
There was field activity in the Fairbury area during the recent warm spell as a few growers were able to catch up on work.
“We even noticed some things getting green out there that maybe we didn’t want to see. The warm weather got people excited,” Schmidgall added.
The ag retailers such as Brandt are keeping busy prior to spring as the seed sheds are filling up and seed treatment is underway. Schmidgall urges farmers to talk with their local retailer soon to get the growing season off on the right foot.
