Field activities continue around state

SPRINGFIELD - Harvest is largely complete throughout the state with operators working on fall tillage and anhydrous ammonia applications, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday afternoon.

Also, many areas had the first freeze of the season. Statewide, the average temperature was 48.1 degrees, 5.5 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.10 inches, 0.62 inches below normal. There were 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 13. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 8 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 8 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.

Corn harvest was 97 percent complete, compared to 100 percent last year. Winter wheat planted reached 95 percent, compared to 99 percent last year. Winter wheat emerged was at 85 percent, compared to 89 percent last year. Winter wheat condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 1 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 14 percent excellent.
