View from the Cab: Grand Ole Summer

You could say I have had a grand ole summer.

We have enjoyed a couple of weekend getaways and now it’s back to reality. My family spent some time in Indianapolis early in July. The Indianapolis Zoo and Children’s Museum are must-sees in my opinion. The kids loved the dolphin show and the sky ride at the zoo while the museum seemed to have something for everyone.

The facility is actually the largest children’s museum in the world. Kasen and Kenadee both enjoyed the hotel stay at Indy as they were able to enjoy snacks and swim. The drive home wasn’t bad either – as we had the pleasure of dining at the Beef House which is one of my favorite restaurants. We capped off the weekend by stopping by Historic Farm Days at Penfield as the show was winding down.

Two weeks later, Rebecca and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by visiting Nashville, Tennessee. Nashville is a very fun place to visit as we took in a few honky tonks, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Grand Ole Opry. There’s never a dull moment in Music City! The city seems to come alive at night with live music and crowds everywhere.

We had to stop at Waffle House on the way home for breakfast since we don’t have any around here. We both enjoyed those warm, thin waffles which are delicious. Then we had a six-hour ride home before picking up the kids from a weekend at Nana and Papa’s house.

Whew…I’m tired after all of that and I’m sure you are getting tired just reading this. We live busy lives but wouldn’t have it any other way. Now I am trying to stay on top of all the mowing and we are starting to prepare equipment for fall harvest which will be here in no time.

Mowing has been a never-ending chore lately as the rains don’t seem to stop this year. Have you noticed all of that watergrass in the yard? That stuff still has dew on it in the afternoon. Those guys and gals who mow yards for a living are earning their pay this summer.
