There were 3.7 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending March 31, according to the weekly crop progress and condition report issued for Illinois this week.


Statewide, the average temperature was 48.8 degrees, 2.7 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.03 inches, 0.11 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent very short, 33 percent short, 52 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 12 percent very short, 30 percent short, 55 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus.


Corn planted reached 1 percent. Soybeans planted reached 1 percent.


Winter wheat condition was 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 25 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.
