View from the Cab: My favorite season
By: Kent Casson
I am glad to see events in the ag world are starting to make a comeback after COVID-19 put practically all meetings and shows on hold.
One event I always look forward to is the Agriculture Awards Dinner from the McLean County Chamber of Commerce. This event is planned for Thursday, Nov. 18 at the Holiday Inn and Suites near the airport in Bloomington. Social hour starts at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner and program starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 and available at www.mcleancochamber.org.
Several awards will be presented that night including the following.
Outstanding Conservationist – a person who has helped to advance the knowledge and practice of soil and water conservation.
Outstanding Young Farmer – a young farmer 40 or under who has been actively involved in civic and community affairs in an effort to promote and improve agriculture. This award is considered by the Ag Council.
McLean County Farmer of the Year – an actively involved farmer in civic and community affairs in an effort to promote and improve agriculture. The McLean County Farm Bureau considers this award.
Outstanding Service to Agriculture – recognizes an individual from the McLean County area for contributions to the cause of agriculture in our community.
Outstanding Person in Agribusiness – honors a businessperson who has served to improve agriculture through civic and community activities.
Emerging Leader in Agriculture – a young professional, high school or college student engaged in non-production agriculture who has served to improve agriculture through civic and community activities.
Ag award dinner sponsors include: Growmark, Brandt, Evergreen FS, Cargill, IAA Credit Union, Corn Belt Energy, Illinois Farm Bureau, Commerce Bank, Bloomington-Normal Community Bank, Compeer Financial, Busey, Bank of Pontiac, McLean County Farm Bureau, Heartland Bank & Trust and Advance Trading.
For more information on the upcoming ag award dinner presentation, e-mail Jessica Kemp, manager of event services for the Chamber, at jessica@mcleancochamber.org.
Another event to be on the lookout for includes the Greater Peoria Farm Show. I hear it returns to the Peoria Civic Center in early December. It really doesn’t feel like the winter season until the farm shows begin. First, we need to conclude our harvest though.
