BLOOMINGTON – Clive Knobloch took his interest in hunting to the McLean County Fair.

The 4-H’er from Normal created a poster on hunter safety education which was displayed in Cloverleaf Hall.

“I recently got my hunting license and I really enjoy doing posters, so I like to share my knowledge,” Knobloch said.

Knobloch enjoys seeing all of the other fair projects and going on the carnival rides during fair week. His sister, Cora, had clay and candle entries on display.

“I have a smore kit that’s made out of clay, a basket of vegetables and fruit then I have beeswax candles,” Cora explained.

Younger sibling Crosby had zinnias, sunflowers and tomatoes at the fair. He especially likes the zinnias which were freshly picked. Just like his older brother, Crosby also enjoys the rides.

University of Illinois Extension 4-H youth development educator Katie Buckley said this year’s projects ranged from cooking and photography to painting and art.

“We spread judging out this year because we planned the show in March so we had to follow mitigations at that time,” Buckley explained.

Entries were down but the McLean County Fair is still one of the biggest in the state with 515 exhibitors and over 3,600 displays.

“The youth work really hard on these (projects) all year round and it’s neat to see what they come up with,” added Buckley.

The 2021 McLean County Fair runs through Sunday in Bloomington.
