Fair hopes for large turnout this week
MELVIN – After a successful 2022 fair, organizers of this week’s Ford County Fair in Melvin are hoping for an even better turnout this time around.
The annual summertime tradition in Melvin started this past Sunday and runs through Saturday.
“We had a good turnout last year even though the heat was extreme,” fair board president Steve Meenan told The Central Illinois Farm Network earlier in the week.
This is Meenan’s second year as the fair board president as he started helping back in 2003 and got on the fair board in 2017. The board includes over a dozen volunteers and more than 30 helpers can be found on the grounds each year.
Wednesday’s fair highlights include bingo, mouse races and armband night specials for rides.
“We kind of touted that as our family night in the middle of the week,” explained Meenan.
Thursday night is the tractor pull and Friday includes the big country music show, “Roots and Boots.” The demolition derby concludes the fair action on Saturday. In fact, Meenan considers Friday and Saturday the two biggest fair days with plenty of entertainment options for visitors.
