Bean harvest still behind average

SPRINGFIELD – There were 1.2 days suitable for field work during the week ending October 31, according to the weekly crop progress and weather report issued Monday for Illinois.


Statewide, the average temperature was 50.0 degrees, 1.6 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 2.35 inches, 1.73 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 4 percent short, 49 percent adequate, and 46 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 4 percent short, 70 percent adequate, and 25 percent surplus.


Corn harvested for grain reached 81 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 80 percent. Soybeans harvested reached 75 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 86 percent.


Winter wheat planted reached 70 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 84 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 53 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 63 percent. Winter wheat condition was 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 10 percent fair, 77 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.
