State FFA leaders having a blast
DECATUR – The Illinois FFA president and vice president are having a blast serving in their respective offices and are excited to see what the future holds.
President Gage Miller of Cambridge in Henry County says he, vice president Lane Harvey and the other state officers play a key role on the team.
“We work together and it’s all pretty much equal,” said Miller. “That’s going around the state traveling, trying to impact members and make the best state association we possibly can.”
Harvey, from Fairfield in Wayne County, feels the leadership team does its best to serve 19,000 members from all parts of Illinois.
“I am extremely blessed to be serving the position I’m in,” acknowledged Harvey.
The officers have been to Washington, D.C. twice and to Chicago and Carbondale on opposite ends of the state.
Miller and Harvey were at a t-shirt booth during this year’s Farm Progress Show raising money for the Illinois and Indiana FFA. They took shifts with different state officers to make as much money as possible. The organization also held at tire auction at the show with the proceeds split between Illinois and Indiana.
Other state FFA officers this year include reporter Brodee McCormick of Athens in Menard County, secretary Collin White of Forest City in Mason County and treasurer Emma Freebairn of Ottawa in LaSalle County.
Illinois has elected a state officer team since 1929.
