You could say this year's Illinois State Fair in Springfield is taking on a new look, complete with remodeled buildings and the addition of 50 new vendors.

The 162nd State Fair opens Thursday and some buildings which are over 100 years old have been redone. The event covers over 360 acres and Illinois Agriculture Director John Sullivan has called the fair preparations an "experience." Sullivan considers the transformation of the fairgrounds in the past month remarkable. Sullivan's ag department oversees the fair and this is his first year in the position.

Admission prices have been cut from $10 to $5 Sunday through Thursday. Seniors are $3 and children 12 and younger are free. New promotions are aimed at boosting family attendance during the day.
