Ford County Fair this week
MELVIN – An area tradition continues this week with the annual running of the Ford County Fair at Melvin.
Fair president Kirk Miller acknowledges plenty of work goes into making the fair a success each year.
“With the spring we had with the late planting season, it’s kind of been a struggle to put things together but we’ve got several good volunteers that put in a lot of hours to make the events happen,” Miller said.
New to the fair this year is a lumberjack show at 7 p.m. Tuesday near the grandstand.
“The guys are coming out of Minnesota and at the conclusion of that, they will have an interactive camp for kids and adults alike,” Miller noted.
Other fair highlights include the hog, sheep, beef, rabbit and goat shows along with the annual queen pageant, talent show and Illiana Truck and Tractor Pull. This year’s country music show Friday night features Montgomery Gentry and Mitchell Tenpenny followed by the Feudin’ Hillbillys.
The fair runs Sunday (June 23) through Saturday (June 29). More information can be found at www.fordcountyfair.org.
