Flavors from the Farm enjoyed by many

FAIRBURY – Area residents tasted their way down Locust Street in Fairbury over the weekend during the city’s second annual “A Local Taste: Flavors from the Farm” event.

The day, organized by the Fairbury Area Chamber of Commerce, provided plenty of fun along with delicious food from local vendors under a bright August sky.

“We are doing it to help local businesses,” explained chamber president Jeremy Leman. “One way we do that is to have a community event to get people out here and get them more involved.”

Businesses are able to get their name out in the community while visitors have something fun to do on the weekend. Leman said “A Local Taste” tends to bring the town together each year.

“We have Dave’s out here doing chicken legs. We also have Kilgus Farmstead with their ice cream and we have the UCLC doing their bake sale,” said chamber executive director Rebekah Fehr.

Brandt Consolidated displayed a large sprayer in Sunken Park while Kent Blunier of Farm Hats provided music and a Case IH combine for visitors to see. Fehr’s family of Oliver tractors were also on display along with a historic truck owned by local resident Ron Schlipf.

“We kind of want to mix it up for the Local Taste Flavors from the Farm because that’s what we do best here in Central Illinois – showcase our agricultural products,” Fehr added.

In addition to a bouncy house for kids, people could try their hand at dunking prominent individuals in a dunk tank, including Val Stoller of SELCAS, police chief Mark Travis, Mayor David Slagel and assistant fire chief Josh Hoselton.
