Not all areas getting rain

COOKSVILLE – Some fields benefited from decent rainfall this week – but not everywhere.

Growers near Cooksville in McLean County have been short on moisture since the middle of April. Doug Matlock, manager of the Brandt Consolidated Cooksville location, is hopeful for more rain in the coming days and weeks.

“Fortunately, we did get a little rain here over the last couple of days but not everywhere. Some of the areas that did need it definitely got some,” Matlock told The Central Illinois Farm Network Thursday afternoon.

Matlock reports his crews have had a good run as they are finishing the corn spraying and moving on to soybeans. Side-dress applications are also concluding across the region. Soybean spraying typically takes longer due to weather challenges and certain restrictions.

Crops are looking good despite some of the extreme weather conditions seen this spring.
