Keep a close eye on planting report

University of Illinois Ag Economist Todd Hubbs encourages farmers to closely monitor this month’s Prospective Plantings report.
He expects growers to plant more soybeans throughout much of the Midwest and Hubbs remains optimistic on corn.
“We’ve had excellent ethanol grind. I feel like that could strengthen,” Hubbs told producers attending last week’s All Day Ag Outlook Meeting in Indiana.
Hubbs noted we have the cheapest corn in the world currently and the U.S. remains highly competitive. If we do plant less corn than usual and the demand remains in place, corn could move up in price throughout 2018-2019.
