Atkins Seed December update

It seems you always see some familiar faces at the Greater Peoria Farm Show and this year’s show was no exception.

Dean Atkins of Atkins Seed Service was working at the Precision Planting area and we caught up with him. V-apply is a new product which allows growers to apply an exact amount of liquid fertilizer on each row.

“The systems on the market right now are actually pretty inaccurate,” Atkins explained.

Another product known as Conceal places liquid nitrogen right next to the seed.

“It gets it in the ground right next to the seed without damaging any of the germination.”

When it comes to planters, Atkins believes now is the time to look at that planter in the shed to see what can be done for 2018 to improve your bottom line. Atkins Seed Service also offers a full line of Pioneer seed including the following soybean products: Liberty, Xtend, Roundup and non-GMO.

“We’ve got a very good number in all four of these classes,” Atkins added.

Atkins is also excited to see what 360 Yield Center has coming for sprayers. Y-Drops have shown an 8-bushel advantage in corn.

To reach Atkins Seed Service at Weston, call 815-945-5113 or stop by the warehouse at the corner of Route 24 and the Weston Blacktop in McLean County.
