Weekly report shows needed rain

Much needed rain was reported across the state in the latest weekly crop progress and weather report released Monday.

There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 16. Statewide, the average temperature was 76.5 degrees, 0.2 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.30 inches, 0.53 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 6 percent very short, 28 percent short, 63 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 5 percent very short, 28 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.

Corn silking jumped to 63 percent, compared to 68 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 15 percent excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 56 percent, compared with 57 percent last year. Soybeans setting pods was at 17 percent, compared to 14 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated at 2 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.
