Ag tech remains hot topic
CISSNA PARK – As growers looks to stay profitable on the farm, they continue turning to more technology.
“With crop prices down, the management of those inputs and where can I cut without hurting yields is definitely on everybody’s mind,” said Paul Schmid, owner of Schmid Ag Technology of Cissna Park.
Schmid urges farmers to find a trusted consultant with good agronomic information that can be tied into the technology side of things to eventually combine everything together to make the proper business decisions to increase yield.
Schmid Ag Technology provides after-market hardware through Trimble and Ag Leader, such as yield monitors and auto steering systems. The business also provides consulting services for fertility, nitrogen management and seeding through Encirca Services.
“It’s been a little bit slower this year, but there’s definitely been a lot of people coming through, some new customers and existing customers,” Schmid said of the Midwest Ag Expo in Gifford where he was an exhibitor.
