Near trend yields for Weinzierl

BLOOMINGTON – Rodney Weinzierl, who farms with his brother-in-law and daughter west of Bloomington, experienced trend-line yields this fall.

He planted corn around Mother’s Day but had some germination problems.

“We are happy with where we ended up but expectations sometimes are always higher,” Weinzierl said this week.

Weinzierl’s soybeans looked really good this year and he is utilizing cover crops. He likes the weed suppression they are getting from cereal rye. Weinzierl is in good shape as all of his cover crops are in and the corn strips are done for next year.

“We are feeling pretty good also about what the 2021 crop looks like, at least from a timing standpoint, which is a little better than where we’ve been in the last few years.”
