ISA, ICGA team up at show

Illinois Soybean Association's Jill Parrent talks to the CIFN at the McLean County Fair / CIFN photo.

BLOOMINGTON – Visitors to this year’s Farm Progress Show in Decatur will notice the Illinois Soybean Association and Illinois Corn Growers have teamed up in the same booth with the theme, “the power of two.”

“Illinois soybean and corn farmers usually farm both so we are excited to be with them this year in the tent,” said Illinois Soybean Association’s Jill Parrent.

The display will feature sustainability, new uses, agronomy and energy topics. Carbon markets is something else the Illinois Soybean Association is working on.

With harvest approaching, many farmers are already busy prepping equipment for fall. Parrent says soybean harvest will likely begin in early September for southern Illinois.

“Right now, we are looking at probably after Labor Day for some of our farmers in southern Illinois and then at the end of September in northern and central Illinois.”

Illinois Soybean Association recently held its re-organizational meeting in July where Steve Pitstick of Maple Park was elected the new chairman and Ron Kindred of Atlanta, Illinois is the vice chairman.
