Cover crop program announced

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced the second year of a cover crop premium discount program.

The “Fall Covers for Spring Savings” program applies to acreage in Illinois planted to cover crops in the fall of 2020 that will be planted to an insurable crop in 2021. Eligible applicants receive a $5 per acre premium discount on the following year’s crop insurance invoice for every acre of cover crop enrolled and verified in the program.

Applications will be available in December on the Illinois Department of Agriculture website. In the meantime, contact IDOA at 217-782-6297.
