Wheat production up from month ago
Winter wheat production was up a percent from the May forecast in Thursday’s USDA report.
National production is forecast at 1.27 billion bushels, up a percent from the May 1 forecast but down 3 percent from 2019. As of June 1, the U.S. wheat yield is forecast at 52.1 bushels per acre, up 0.4 bushel from 53.6 bushels per acre.
For Illinois, winter wheat harvested area in 2020 is forecast at 530,000 acres, down 20,000 from the previous year. The winter wheat yield is forecast at 73 bushels per acre, up 6 bushels from 2019. Production is forecast at 38.7 million bushels, up 5 percent from last year.
USDA’s monthly WASDE report didn’t have anything new for corn and soybeans as 2020 production estimates remained the same as last month with a national corn yield average of 178.5 bushels per acre and 15.99 billion bushels. The average soybean yield is 49.8 bushels per acre with 4.12 billion bushels.
