Webster provides field update

Ahead of last week’s rain, many fields were working up nicely.

Central Illinois grower Jason Webster observed better soil conditions than he has seen in recent years, although some of the ground was damp underneath.

“We just didn’t have enough heat to get (the soils) going yet,” Webster told The Central Illinois Farm Network over the weekend.

Webster, who farms with his father, is entering his 33rd year of farming in the corner of Ford, Livingston and Kankakee counties. Webster has half of his corn in the ground so far and about 25 percent of his soybeans are planted.

“That was an area that kind of missed the snow that came in a week ago.”

Several acres have been planted near Webster’s home farm and many growers are even finished with soybeans.
